Step 1

Tos the apples with the lemon juice in a bowl to keep them from browning. Next, add about half of the apples to your slow cooker along with the cinnamon candies, brown sugar, ginger, and cloves. Give everything a good stir, then pour in just enough apple juice to almost cover the apples.

Step 2

Set the slow cooker to Low and cook, stirring now and then, until the candies have melted completely—this should take about an hour. After that, turn the heat up to High and let it cook until the apples start to break down and get soft, which usually takes around 4 hours.

Step 3

Once the apples have softened, add the rest of the apples to the slow cooker. Turn the heat back down to Low and keep cooking until the spread thickens to your liking—this will take at least another 3 hours. Give it the occasional stir and enjoy the wonderful aroma filling your kitchen!
