Why This Recipe Is So Easy To Love

This pie offers a perfect balance of sweet and rich flavors with a warm hint of maple. Its creamy texture and buttery crust make it a comforting treat that feels both classic and unique. It’s a dessert that brings warmth to any gathering.

Helpful Kitchen Tips

- Use real maple syrup for the best flavor; imitation syrups can taste artificial.
- Chill the pie dough before rolling to prevent shrinking during baking.
- Bake the pie on a lower rack to ensure the filling sets without overbaking the crust.

Step 1

Warm your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, cut the vegetable shortening into the flour using a pastry cutter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. In a separate cup, whisk together one egg, cold water, and vinegar. Make a little well in the center of the flour mixture with your fingers and pour in about half of the egg mixture. Stir it in gently, then add the rest of the egg mixture and mix just until everything comes together into a dough.

Step 2

On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a 10-inch circle. Carefully transfer it to an 8-inch pie dish, trimming the edges and pinching them to create a nice fluted crust.

Step 3

In a bowl, whisk the maple syrup, two eggs, sweetened condensed milk, and brown sugar until the sugar dissolves. Pour this filling into your prepared crust.

Step 4

Bake the pie for about 45 minutes, until the filling is set and the top has a few golden, sugary spots. Once it’s out of the oven, let it chill in the fridge for 5 to 6 hours until it’s completely firm and ready to enjoy.

Serving Ideas For Every Meal

Serve warm or at room temperature with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. A sprinkle of toasted pecans on top adds a nice crunch and complements the maple flavor beautifully.

How To Freeze This Dish

Cover the pie tightly with plastic wrap or foil and store in the refrigerator. It will keep fresh for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze the pie wrapped securely and thaw overnight in the fridge before serving.
