Step 1

Bring the vegetable broth, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil to a boil in a saucepan. Once it’s boiling, add the quinoa, lower the heat, cover, and let it simmer gently for about 20 minutes until the quinoa is tender. Take it off the heat and let it cool for a bit.

Step 2

In a large bowl, mash the black beans along with the eggs, breadcrumbs, water, garlic, salt, and pepper until everything is well combined. Stir in the cooled quinoa and mix until the mixture holds together.

Step 3

Heat some canola oil in a big skillet over medium-high heat. Scoop out about half a cup of the mixture for each patty and shape them however you like. Cook the patties for around 3 minutes on each side until they’re nicely browned and crispy. Once done, place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Serving Guide

Serve these patties on a toasted bun with fresh lettuce, tomato, and avocado for a classic burger feel. They also go well with a side salad or sweet potato fries. For a lighter option, try serving them over mixed greens with a tangy dressing.

Reheating And Storage

Store any leftover patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze them for up to 2 months; just thaw and reheat in a skillet or oven before serving.
