Step 1

Blend 2 1/2 cups of flour and a pinch of salt in a big bowl. Cut in 1/2 cup butter and shortening until the mixture looks crumbly. On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a large rectangle. Press it into the bottom and up the sides of an aluminum foil roasting pan, making sure it’s about an inch up the edges.

Step 4

Pile the sliced apples evenly over the crust, then drizzle the buttery sugar mixture on top. For the crumble topping, toss the apple crisp mix in a bowl and cut 1/2 cup butter into it until it’s crumbly. Sprinkle this all over the apples.

Step 5

Pop the pie in a preheated oven and bake for about an hour, or until the top is golden and bubbly. Let it cool a bit before slicing and serving!
