What Makes This Recipe So Great

These bars are a great way to enjoy a healthy snack that is both filling and delicious. They combine whole grains with natural sweetness from fruit, making them perfect for a quick energy boost. Plus, they are easy to customize with your favorite ingredients.

Cooking Tips

- Use rolled oats for the best texture, avoiding instant oats which can make the bars too soft.
- Press the mixture firmly into the pan to help the bars hold together well.
- Let the bars cool completely before cutting to prevent them from crumbling.

Step 1

Gently heat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 10x14-inch baking dish with cooking spray. In a large bowl, beat together the brown sugar and butter with an electric mixer until the mixture is smooth and creamy. In another bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, salt, cinnamon, baking soda, and allspice. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix well. Then, stir in the oats using a wooden spoon until everything is combined. Press half of this oat batter firmly into the bottom of your prepared dish.

Step 2

Pop it into the oven and bake for about 10 minutes. Once it’s out, spread the strawberries and blueberries evenly over the crust. Crumble the remaining oat batter over the fruit and gently press down to flatten everything a bit. Return the dish to the oven and bake for another 20 to 25 minutes, until the edges turn a nice golden brown.

Step 3

Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting them into 24 squares. Enjoy!

Serving Options To Try

Enjoy these bars as a breakfast on the go or a midday snack. They pair well with a cup of tea, coffee, or a glass of milk. You can also serve them alongside yogurt or fresh fruit for a more complete meal.

Leftover Tips

Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, keep them in the refrigerator where they will stay fresh for up to two weeks. You can also freeze the bars individually wrapped for up to three months.
