Why This Dish Is Amazing
Best Cooking Tips
- Make sure the caramel is not too hot when pouring, so it doesn’t soak into the crust too much.
- Let the squares cool completely before cutting to keep the layers intact.
Step 1
Warm your oven to 400°F. In a bowl, mix together the flour, oats, salt, and baking soda. In a bigger bowl, beat the butter, shortening, and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until it’s nice and smooth. Then, add the dry ingredients and mix until it looks crumbly.
Step 2
Set aside about 2 cups of this crumbly mixture. Press the rest firmly into the bottom of a 9x13-inch pan to make the crust. Spread the apples evenly over the crust.
Step 3
Warm up the caramel dip in the microwave for 30 to 40 seconds until it's soft and easy to stir. Pour the caramel over the apples, then sprinkle the reserved crumbs on top.
Step 4
Bake everything in the middle of the oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until the top is golden and the apples are tender. Let it cool just a little, then cut into squares and enjoy. If you have leftovers, keep them covered in the fridge.
